How Optional Donations Help

One of the things that makes Holy Smocks so special is that our Thursday night gatherings are completely free. We believe everyone should have access to a welcoming community art night, regardless of their budget or artistic experience. As a free art club in Princeton, Texas, our mission is to create a space where neighbors can slow down, make something with their hands, and build genuine friendships. Every paintbrush, sheet of paper, and bottle of glue helps make that possible.
You might be surprised by how many everyday craft supplies become meaningful projects. We happily accept donations of acrylic paint, paintbrushes, canvases, any type of glue, construction paper, cardstock, scrapbook paper, magazines, fabric scraps, yarn, ribbon, markers, colored pencils, scissors, and other creative odds and ends. Those simple materials have become vision boards filled with dreams, hilariously unforgettable creations during our Bad Art Competition, colorful canvas paintings, handmade Valentine's cards for local seniors, sewn cat toys and braided rope toys for animals waiting in shelters, and folded paper stars made to encourage our nation's veterans. Every donated item has the chance to become something that brings joy, comfort, or connection to someone else.
If you're wondering what you could donate, the answer might already be tucked away in a closet or craft cabinet. Many of us have supplies left over from hobbies we meant to start, projects we never quite finished, or creative phases we've outgrown. Before tossing them out, consider giving them a second life! Keep an eye on neighborhood garage sales, estate sales, thrift stores, Buy Nothing groups, and Facebook Marketplace, where people often give away or sell craft supplies for little to no cost. Even old magazines, wrapping paper, ribbon, buttons, baskets, and fabric scraps can inspire a future project. What may no longer serve your home could become the highlight of someone else's creative experience.
When you donate supplies to Holy Smocks, you're doing much more than filling a craft bin. You're helping create a free community space where people can laugh together, learn something new, support local businesses, and experience the kind of belonging that can be difficult to find in a rapidly growing city. Many of our gatherings take place inside locally owned businesses, giving neighbors another reason to visit and support the people who help make Princeton such a wonderful place to call home. As Holy Smocks continues to grow, so does our dream of opening a permanent creative space where at least one day every week will always remain free for the community. Until then, every donated magazine, tube of glue, bottle of paint, and bundle of yarn helps us continue offering free art events in Collin County. Together, we're proving that generosity doesn't have to be grand—it simply has to be shared!
